Coronavirus update in India: India said on Wednesday that it had more than 1,600 coronavirus patients and 39 deaths from the disease, urging people to stay indoors during a national lockout of three weeks.


Ajit Pawar, chief deputy minister of Maharashtra, warned against tougher measures to enforce the lockdown if people "do not behave". Delhi's chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said his government would give families Rs 1 crore if health professionals or other professionals died while serving patients with coronavirus.

 Lav Agarwal, joint secretary in the health ministry, said 134 coronavirus cases were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat, the Islamic group which organised the gathering in mid-March before the 21-day lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

IAF transports around 25 tonnes of medical supplies in the last 3 days


Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown to combat COVID-19, the Indian Air Force on Wednesday said it has transported around 25 tonnes of essential medical supplies from Delhi, Surat, Chandigarh to Manipur, Nagaland and the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The medical supplies include personal protective equipment (PPE), hand sanitiser, surgical gloves, thermal scanners, the IAF said in a statement, adding that medical personnel are also being taken from one place to another using their aircraft.

Coronavirus: The fourth doctor tested positive in Delhi


Another doctor of a hospital in Delhi has been tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total count of doctors affected by the infection to four. The doctor is from Sardar Patel Hospital and the administration is tracing the source of infection.
Before this, a doctor from Delhi State Cancer Institution was also affected by the virus resulting in shutting down of the hospital for sanitisation, IANS reported.

Spain death toll hits 9,053 as virus cases pass 100,000


The coronavirus death toll in Spain surged over 9,000 on Wednesday after a record 864 deaths in 24 hours, with the number of confirmed cases passing the 100,000 mark, the government said. Spain has the world's second-highest death toll after Italy, with the virus so far claiming 9,053 lives and the number of confirmed cases reaching 102,136.
But on a day-to-day basis, the rate of new infections continued its downward trend, showing an increase of just over 8.0 per cent, compared with nearly 11 per cent on Tuesday, health ministry figures showed.

Private lab in Maharashtra stopped from conducting coronavirus tests


Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday said a private lab in the state has been stopped from conducting coronavirus tests for delay in providing results. The private testing laboratories are unable to provide prompt results to state authorities, he said.
 "Every report provided by them has to be rechecked in the state-run labs again. After the state-run lab confirms prevalence of the infection, the person is declared coronavirus positive," Tope told reporters.

Delhi to give Rs 1 cr to kin of professionals who die treating Covid-19


Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced Rs one crore for the families of healthcare personnel if they lose their lives while dealing with coronavirus cases in the national capital. Interacting with doctors, the chief minister said that at present, the Delhi government gives Rs one crore to the families of soldiers belonging to the national capital if they die in the line of duty.

5,000 quarantined in Maharashtra after close contact with Covid-19 patients


Over 5,000 people in Maharashtra have been quarantined so far as they were in close contact with 162 COVID-19 patients in the state, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters, Tope said that 5343 people have been identified as high risk contact, because they were in close contact with the 162 COVID-19 positive patients in the state
"We have quarantined these 'high risk contact' people as they are likely to be infected or are carriers of the coronavirus infection, he said.
